POLYPHLOX® FLAME RETARDANTS

HALOGEN-FREE REACTIVE FLAME RETARDANT FOR EPOXY, POLYESTER AND POLYURETHANE RESINS

Due to their versatility and excellent properties, reactive resin systems are used in a wide range of applications, such as transportation (shipping, rail, aviation). In order to meet the fire protection requirements applicable in the respective fields of application, flame retardants must be added to the resin systems.

STRUKTOL® POLYPHLOX® flame retardants offer numerous advantages in use:

  • halogen-free,
  • toxicologically harmless in case of fire,
  • reactive organophosphorus compound with high phosphorus content
  • chemically incorporated in resin matrix.

The high organic phosphorus content and the chemical integration in the cured epoxy resin system significantly reduce flammability and smoke density, that no full scale fire occurs and there is sufficient time for escape. Optimum property profiles with regard to fire protection requirements and other product properties can be achieved via the added quantity of POLYPHLOX® modifier. To further increase the performance of our POLYPHLOX® modifiers, additional synergists can be added.

Reactive flame retardants based on phosphorous-organic compounds such as DOPO are a very effective and toxicologically safe alternative to halogen-containing flame retardants.

STRUKTOL® POLYPHLOX® products are chemically pre-treated so that they later react with the matrix in epoxy resin systems. This has little effect on the mechanical and chemical properties of the cured EP matrix, so that for many applications the respective optimum property profile and good fire protection (e.g. UL94 V0) can be achieved.

The products can often be combined well with synergists such as APP, melamine cyanurates or ATH, so that the fire protection effect can be further enhanced.
